RCIS Underwriting Services Specialist I


Jump start your career!!! Zurich /RCIS is currently looking for an Underwriter Services Specialist I to work out of our Sioux Falls, SD office.

RCIS provides insurance and superior services through leading agents to protect America’s farmers and ranchers. It’s been an innovator in crop insurance since the crop insurance business was privatized by the federal government in 1980. Today it’s one of the nation’s largest crop insurance providers, offering risk management protection in all 50 states through a national network of about 4,000 professionally trained and licensed agents.

There will be required travel for a maximum of one week to Anoka, MN during the new hire orientation.

  • Build a working knowledge of crop insurance policy and procedure; with guidance, review and process basic crop insurance documents associated with the procurement of Crop insurance

  • Follow established SOPs to resolve basic CI Max suspensions - may work with more experienced team members on more complex suspensions

  • Monitor the status of suspended documents and ensure that the required information is received and timely processed in accordance with established SOPs and RMA procedures; with guidance

  • Work with the RMA Regional Office to submit and process policyholder RMA exception requests; with guidance, gather information, compile data review output, and compose and distribute correspondence to agents and policyholders

  • Provide superior customer service by logging into the underwriting team queue and responding to basic to moderately complex policy and procedure questions from agents and field staff - escalate to more experienced team members as appropriate

  • Participate in internal training meetings

  • Assist with claims processing during peak claims processing workloads as directed by supervisor

  • Create and maintain HEAT tickets to document software issues or enhancement request and communicate with agent regarding status

  • Demonstrate superior customer focus while maintaining the highest level of professionalism to ensure the customer's needs are met

Basic Qualifications:

High School Diploma or Equivalent and No prior experience required in the Clerical Support or Data Entry area


Zurich approved Apprenticeship program including an Associate Degree and No prior experience required in the Clerical Support or Data Entry area

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Customer service experience

  • Attention to detail and accuracy skills

  • Effective organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills

  • Good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Agriculture industry experience

  • Insurance industry experience
