Staff Operations Leader/Assistant Vice President


Zurich North America is currently looking for a Staff Operations Leader, Assistant Vice President for our Operations Team. This position will report to the Senior Vice President & Head of Underwriting Support & Service and will be based in our North American Headquarters in Schaumburg, IL.

The Staff Operations Leader participates in the planning, execution, and measurement of the business unit, provides strategic support and manages strategic initiatives. This position will take a holistic approach to identifying business improvement opportunities and identifies the resources and various disciplines needed to execute change. Designs, facilitates and/or participates in cross-functional projects that promote organizational effectiveness, efficiency, and profitability. Creates communication strategies, timelines, agendas, goals and works on appropriate change management practices. This role will also utilize tools to analyze and synthesize information, reports and metrics that are used to foster improvements and generate operational insights. This position will also leverage and partner with leaders across the organization to ensure our key efforts/initiatives stay focused and on track.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working with the business leader to handle matters of importance and is the liaison with management and staff.

  • Provides input to meeting structures, agenda and content to keep business unit/strategic support unit aware, focused and results-oriented.

  • Assists in the development and identification of business improvement opportunities/solutions, sets priorities, manages initiatives and leverages resources to execute change.

  • Provides analysis and consultation to the executive and management team on major issues affecting the unit.

  • Assists and contributes to business objectives and strategic planning activities.

  • Facilitates the strategic and/or tactical business planning process.

  • Prepares and/or contributes to the preparation of reports, briefings, presentations, and responses on unit or CoE issues.

  • Provides updates in meetings to provide specialist guidance and enable the implementation of project initiatives to improve business performance.

  • Manages projects with various change and communications elements and facilitates the delivery of the project solution to support the benefits realization phase.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 7 or more years of experience within the Insurance industry to include Operations, Claims, Underwriting, Consulting or Risk EngineeringOR

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 9 or more years of experience in the Claims or Consulting or Risk Engineering or Underwriting area within the Insurance industryAND

  • Operations experience preferably in the Insurance industry

  • Data Analytics, Strategy, Project Management and/or Change Management experience

  • Excellent Organizational skills

  • Experience managing business initiatives and full cycle projects

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels within the organization

  • Ability to influence and lead without authority

  • Experience in a fast-paced, large matrixed environment

  • Ability to multi-task

  • Demonstrated leadership skills
