Zurich is currently looking for a Reinsurance Finance Director that could work out of our North American headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois.

The Reinsurance Finance Director is within Zurich's Group Reinsurance (Group Re) function, a global function within Zurich's global finance function. Reinsurance within this global function, encompasses everything involved in managing Zurich's reinsurance activities. These activities include internal and external treaty reinsurance purchasing, reinsurance finance & operations, reinsurance recoveries (claims), reinsurance asset management, reinsurance analytics, life reinsurance, reinsurance legal as well as responsibility for the governance and control over all forms of reinsurance (treaty, facultative and captive reinsurance) across the Zurich group. Group Reinsurance’s operating model is based on providing services out of four main hubs located in the United States, Switzerland, Toronto, and Bermuda.

The Reinsurance Finance Director will report directly to the Head of Reinsurance Finance & Recovery Management North America. This position will be directly accountable for ensuring the proper reinsurance accounting and recovery execution related to specific reinsurance related portfolios (property & casualty treaty, captive and auto warranty reinsurance portfolio). The concentration of this role will be the on attention to supporting the teams reporting to this position with leadership, prioritization, issue escalation and resolution, training and development, control oversight, and process and technology improvements. It is also expected to have strong influences in helping to run the overall operation in junction with strong collaboration with the current management team, as well as, our other key stakeholders (e.x., Financial Accounting & Reporting, Actuarial, Claims, etc.). This North American unit manages reinsurance recoverables in excess of $26 billion, is responsible for the proper annual accounting and settlement of approximately $10 billion of assumed and ceded premiums and has the fiduciary responsibility for reinsurance collateral of approximately $15 billion.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance and 10 or more years of experience in the Reinsurance area within the Insurance industryOR

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 12 or more years of experience in the Reinsurance area within the Insurance industry

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA / CPCU / CFA / CTP / MBA

  • Work experience within top tier auditing companies with focus on the reinsurance and insurance industry

  • Advanced knowledge of the reinsurance finance operations

  • Advanced knowledge of accounting concepts (both IFRS, STAT and/or OSFI)

  • Advanced understanding of financial reporting processes

  • Advanced understanding of internal controls and the audit function

  • Advanced leadership ability with experience leading other managers

  • Ability to manager and participate in large projects

  • Advance knowledge and experience working with reinsurance contracts

  • Knowledge of reinsurance claim recoverable process and link to direct claim processing required in certain roles

  • Technology experience related to one or more of the following areas: General ledger SAP, Financial Reporting systems, Business Objects or other query tool

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • People management experience
