Zurich is currently searching for a Big Data Engineering Director to work in our Information Technology unit out of our Zurich North American headquarters office in Schaumburg, IL.

This person will create and maintainconstructive and supportive relationships with Zurich Business Partners (BP) and ensure all projects are initiated within IT's delivery framework that satisfies BP's needs while being aligned to both IT and BP strategy.

The Big Data Engineering Director will be part of an Enterprise Data Initiative Unit that will be responsible for leveraging the value of the data assets throughout the Zurich organization and will be tasked at managing and empowering a team that facilitates the development/implementation of the desired end-state data environment within our Hadoop/Cloud Data Ecosystem, leveraging emerging tools and technologies, while evolving and refining standards and methodologies. She/he will lead the team in designing and implementing next generation Best in Class solutions in the Big Data space, so this individual should have extensive experience working with very large data sets and detailed knowledge of building architecture and design that leverage Big data and Data warehouses platforms within On-Premise and Cloud platforms.

Additionally, you’ll have an innate understanding of how to provision, monitor, support, evolve, and evangelize the Big Data technology stack while facilitating executive interaction with members of Zurich Senior IT Leadership.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Information Systems areaOR

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Information Systems area

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8 or more years of years' software development experience preferred

  • 3 or more years of Big data engineering development lifecycle experience preferred

  • 2 or more years of Big Data Hadoop-related architecture experience preferred

  • 2 or more years of people manager and team lead experience

  • 2 or more years of working experience of building and managing data pipelines on On-Premise and Azure/AWS Cloud data platforms

  • Programming languages – Spark, Scala, Java/J2EE, Linux, Wakari, Anaconda, R, PHP, Python, C, C , Hadoop, Hive, HBase, Pig, MapReduce and other Hadoop eco-system components

  • Data warehouse, BI and ETL tools

  • Detailed knowledge of RDBMS data modeling and SQL

  • Knowledge of NoSQL databases types such as OLAP, Graph, Key Value, Object, XML, JSON, SQL, NOSQL, Tuple Store, Columnar, in-memory

  • Master Data Management tools and methodologies

  • Good knowledge of Unix/Linux, Ruby, Python, Perl and other Scripting languages

  • Development knowledge of J2EE and design patterns in a distributed, multi-platform, heterogeneous computing environment

  • Experience with "productionalizing" Big data applications (e.g. administration, configuration management, monitoring, debugging, and performance tuning)

  • Knowledge of Cloud computing infrastructure (e.g. Azure ADLS, HD Insight, Databricks, AWS EC2, Elastic MapReduce) and considerations for scalable, distributed systems

  • Master’s Degree highly preferred
