Zurich is currently looking for an Application Architect to work out of our North American head-quarters in Schaumburg, Illinois.

The Application Architect provides expert advice, identify functional/non-functional requirements and interface with vendors and the enterprise architecture community to support the design of compliant solutions which meet business needs.

Client Internally Focused - The job’s core deliverables rely on delivering service to internal clients, usually at the line manager or employee level. May involve sharing subject matter expertise to others in the organization or supporting others in their efforts to deliver on our promise.

Additional responsibilities will include:

  • Contributing to the delivery of assigned IT application mid-size project or program work stream for specific vertical lines of business by collaborating with BC&IT contacts on approach for project / program involvement

  • Maintaining the understanding of the functionality and use of the IT application portfolio for specific vertical lines of business

  • Within a program, taking direction from more senior program solution Architect or from Enterprise / functional architects in smaller projects

  • Independently performing or executing given solution design assignments capable to implement E2E processes

  • Utilizing the group operations and technology governance process, to provide architectural design approval and ensure that the IT architectural standards and practices are followed through project and program involvement

  • Providing consultation for multiple areas of technology to project efforts within various IT areas and/or external service providers

  • Identifying, in collaboration with the more senior program solution architects or in smaller projects directly with the functional area architects, existing IT software assets for new opportunities (e.g. re-use) through project and program involvement

  • Contributing to the development and maintenance of IT enterprise architecture, standards and practices by maintaining understanding of current and future technology developments

  • Providing consultation for broad areas of technology to project efforts within various IT areas and/or external service providers

  • Providing formal and informal leadership and direction to other architects

  • Designing and documenting solutions required to meet business needs and automate business processes/activities

  • Understanding and evaluating multiple platforms, software packages, and custom components to design the solution

  • Harvesting reusable building blocks for reuse on other projects/programs

  • Supporting the development of business cases

  • Participating in technology evaluations

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 6 or more years of experience in the Application Design and Development areaOR

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 8 or more years of experience in the Application Design and Development area

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Insurance Industry Experience

  • Ability to distill and present technical thoughts and ideas to multiple audiences including business, vendor and IT management

  • Versatile, clear and concise communication skills to be able to convey messaging to multiple audiences

  • Knowledge of Commercial Insurance Domain, specifically policy administration, rating and pricing

  • Experience in working on packaged vendor solutions, preferably Policy Administration systems

  • Technical expertise on Microsoft platform (.NET and SQL Server Platform) and integration technologies

  • Experience in triaging incidents and outages and working with internal and external resources towards remediation

  • Understanding of insurance industry trends and new technologies

  • Experience in delivering projects and enhancements, working with vendors and stakeholders
