Workers' Compensation Trial Attorney I


Zurich iscurrently looking for a Workers’ Compensation Trial Attorney I to work out ofour North American offices in Pasadena, California.

With ongoing direction and oversight, the Worker’sCompensation Trial Attorney I represents the Company´s insureds in all phasesof litigation for matters of low to moderate technical complexity. Engages inthe practice of law and the representation of Zurich insureds to protect theirinterests in litigation.

Additional responsibilities will include:

  • Achievingbest outcomes for clients by demonstrating technical excellence in casehandling, trial preparation and presentation for matters of low to moderatecomplexity

  • Drivingpositive results by correctly applying the law and legal trends, conductinglegal analysis and research, preparing legal pleadings and documents, preparingfor and managing pre-trial discovery, and participating in judicial oradministrative hearings and trials, as required

  • Documentingcase files by accurately capturing and updating relevant information incompliance with best practices

  • Workingto have a timely resolution to matters by collaborating with the claimsadjuster, developing a case strategy and escalating issues as appropriate

  • Ensuringcustomer service to clients by proactively communicating information;responding to inquiries; and following customer protocols

  • Withguidance, implementing alternative dispute resolution techniques asappropriate, by using effective mediation and negotiation skills within authoritylimit

  • Maintainingprofessional and technical knowledge by participating in educationalopportunities, staying current with industry trends, establishing personalnetworks and participating in professional societies

  • Contributingto the team effort by accomplishing related results and collaborating onmatters as needed

  • Ensuringlegal compliance by following state and federal laws and regulations

  • ProtectingZurich’s reputation by keeping claims information confidential

Basic Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorand 1 or more years of experience in the Litigation areaAND

  • Memberof the Bar in good standing in jurisdiction(s) in which practice is located

  • Experienceworking with Lexis

  • Knowledgeof the insurance industry, claims and the insurance defense litigation legalenvironment

  • Knowledgeof the law and procedure

Preferred Qualifications:

  • California Workers’ Compensation experience

  • Strongcommunication skills

  • Negotiationskills

  • Experienceworking in a team-based environment

  • Collaborationskills

  • MicrosoftOffice and Adobe experience
