Claims Trainee (Rocky Hill and Parsippany)


Zurich is currently looking for a Claims Trainee, to support our Claims Team working out of our North American office in our Rocky Hill, CT office.

Zurich’s Claims Trainee Program is an entry level opportunity for individuals with the drive to become successful members of our claims team. This is an exciting opportunity to begin a career in Commercial Insurance! You will learn all aspects of handling claims by following Zurich's best practices. The program starts in June 2019 and will include 3-4 weeks of classroom training in our Schaumburg, IL office.

This position will be closely supervised and work within narrowly defined limits of authority providing a high level of customer service to our insureds and claimants. After an initial period of training, this position will handle low complexity claims. Participants go through a structured 12 month training program that gives them the technical and real life perspective to understand the “Zurich Way of Claims.”

Your claims career begins in your assigned office with a structured training plan working with the local manager and local team.

Next, it is three weeks of centralized classroom training and hands-on experience in our home office in Schaumburg, IL. Your classroom training will provide the technical tools needed in the role. You will also learn how to apply your knowledge to ensure you understand how we “deliver when it matters most.” You will progressively build your skills as you are introduced to more complex Claims, case studies and skill-building exercises that help you understand how to work both internally and with our customers.

The transition back to your local office will be your opportunity to demonstrate what you have learned. You will build on this strong foundation as you continue with 8-10 months of on-the-job training

Basic Qualifications:

  • Have a Bachelor’s degree or above with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA

  • Be legally eligible to work in the U.S. indefinitely

  • Have the ability to travel to Schaumburg, IL for 3-4 weeks of classroom training

  • Be flexible to relocate within a 5 year period to a location within the assigned line of business to one of Zurich’s metro office locations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Corporate internship experience or corporate work experience

  • Leadership and involvement in extracurricular activities and on campus organizations and/or community, public service or similar activities

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • High learning agility

  • Analytical aptitude

  • Willingness to embrace the Zurich Basics of Integrity, Sustainability, Customer centricity, Excellence and Teamwork
