Zurich North America is currently looking for a VP, Financial Lines Technical Claims Director. This position will report to the Head of Technical Claims and ourpreference is for the individual to be based in our New York, NY, Chicago, IL or Atlanta, GA office with business travel expected.

The Director of Technical Claims for Financial Lines is responsible for leading the development and implementation of the current and future strategic direction for Financial Lines Claims. This is a critical role and requires advanced knowledge of Financial Lines to include D&O, Cyber, Private/Nonprofit (PNP), Financial Institutions, Professional Programs, A&H and Healthcare. This leader willutilize their expertise to manage and drive the overall success of complex claims for our Financial Lines business.

This leader will manage a team of managers and claim professionals, manage workloads, production, service levels and drive results. This leader will also be responsible for engaging with Line of Business leaders, as well as other internal and external stakeholders to drive the strategy for Financial Lines results. We are looking for a leader that is forward thinking, drives process improvements and business efficiencies, and collaborates across the organization to develop, implement, and measure business goals, objectives, and capabilities.

Success in this role requires a strong commitment to teamwork, communication, and results-oriented execution. This leader must be collaborative with a passion and capability for creating world-class teams and is an effective coach that will develop talent for the organization and is committed to creating a culture of high performance.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Interpret and review the commercial drivers in the market and develop cross-functional business cases for complex projects and programs and act as project sponsor to ensure delivery.

  • Analyze and review the organization´s risk/compliance strategies and develop policies relevant to claims in a particular area ensuring they are up to date, comprehensive and approved through the appropriate committee structure to enable the strategy to be implemented.

  • Review and evaluate the organization´s business strategy and external trends in Claims such as regulatory change and develop functional policies to support the delivery of the organization´s goals and ensure compliance with existing and emerging regulations.

  • Create strategic plans, evaluating and improving the efficiency of business processes and best practices to enhance customer service, technical excellence, and quality.

  • Contribute to effective claim outcomes by making line of business decisions that are financially responsible, accountable, justifiable, and defensible in accordance with organizational policies and procedures and fair claims practice standards.

  • Provide claims insights to assist business units by collaborating in product development, customer/broker stewardship and prospect meetings.

  • Provide thought leadership by identifying opportunities and risks associated with changes in direction of external environment looking forward 5+ years.

  • Manage relationships with internal and external customers and, brokers to meet customer expectations, maximize customer retention and achieve customer satisfaction targets.

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, professional publications, establishing personal networks, benchmarking state of the art practices, participating in professional societies.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 12 or more years of experience in the Claims areaAND

  • 6 or more years of management experience

  • Customer service experience

  • Experience with Microsoft Office

  • Negotiation experience

  • Experience collaborating across work groups

  • Experience working with loss and severity trends

  • Experience identifying and implementing strategies to mitigate loss

  • Experience with Financial Lines of business

  • Travel up to 50%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced knowledge of claims, insurance legal and regulatory environment, and legal statutes and procedures

  • Extensive knowledge and experience handling Financial Lines claims

  • Analytical skills and experience working with basic to moderate financial data

  • Strong leadership, development of talent, and experience managing managers

  • Strong collaboration, negotiation, conflict resolution, and influencing skills

  • Excellent communication, problem solving skills and the ability to ability to multi-task

  • Juris Doctorate

  • AIC

  • SCLA

  • CPCU

Compensation for roles at Zurich varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. As required by local law, Zurich provides in good faith a reasonable range of compensation for roles. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are encouraged to apply, and will be considered based on experience, skill, and education. The starting salary range for this position is $168,400 - $275,800.
