Senior Technical Underwriter - Workers' Compensation
Zurich is looking for a Senior Technical Underwriter to support our Workers’ Compensation line of business. In this role you will provide technical underwriting expertise and guidance to Business Units and underwriters as the Subject Matter Expert in all aspects of Workers’ Compensation.
This position requires a high level of collaboration with the Market Facing Underwriting team with an emphasis on large account and loss sensitive underwriting, portfolio management, underwriting reviews, involvement in profitability studies, and involvement in new product development. You will be strategic and instrumental in the achievement of business plans and tasked with guideline and pricing simplification.
This Technical Underwriter IV is considered an “expert” level role and an AVP role for Zurich North America.
Work with the Market Facing Business units to develop Line of Business strategy, evaluate results and trends
Provide insights to the Business unit based on evaluation of the market and results
Considered Subject Matter Expert (SME) for larger business units handling referrals for items outside of field authority, guidance on strategy, tactics, etc.
Address regulatory concerns – State Market Conduct Exams, Department of Insurance Investigations, etc.
Assist field personnel with structuring more complicated programs involving rating plans such as large deductibles and excess of Self Insured Retention (SIR)
Develop and implement training to address reoccurring / broader issues
Manage large loss lessons learned process annually
Conduct Underwriting audits within all business units
Develop underwriting guidelines
Research into emerging issues
Bachelor’s Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Underwriting area
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Underwriting area
Advanced knowledge of Large Account Underwriting, Pricing and Products
Advanced knowledge of line/s of business and the legal and regulatory environment
Strong listening, verbal and written communication skills
