Cyber Product Specialist, Technical Underwriter


Zurich North America is currently looking for an experienced Cyber Product Specialist for our Technical Underwriting team. This role will provide technical underwriting expertise and guidance to Business Unit Leaders and Market Facing Underwriters. This role will be a Subject Matter Expert on the Cyber Portfolio and act independently and with minimal direction in support of the achievement of business plans and proposition development. The job’s core deliverables rely on influencing or negotiating with a broad range of internal clients, specifically executives and/or senior management. This person will operationalize an underwriting business strategy through active engagement with internal and external stakeholders utilizing market and industry data to drive decision making and outcomes. Implements risk appetite changes based on relevant internal and external data. Contribute to the development of technical standards, controls and practices in line of business or product line. Working with Cross-functional resources, actively drives the implementation of Underwriting strategies (e.g., Pricing), propositions, and solutions (e.g., product development, underwriting tools and processes) for a portfolio, line of business or product line.

This position is flexible on location and can be located in one of our Zurich Offices.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Coordinate the development and implementation of strategies and business solutions for the Cyber Portfolio.

  • Establish product-specific coverage strategies and ensure effective management and implementation of strategic objectives and policies.

  • Empower market facing underwriters through authority grants.

  • Develop technical standards, controls and practices for the coverage that can be implemented by the LOB.

  • Work with market-facing underwriters and marketing to determine customer needs and develop cross lines approach to appropriately meet their needs, to optimize correlation between current products, or create new products.

  • Drive Management Liability growth initiatives.

  • Help to promote Zurich’s offering and value proposition.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Insurance area

  • OR

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Underwriting area

  • AND

  • Practice of Cyber lines of business experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor

  • Advanced knowledge and practice of Cyber risk assessment

  • Strong relationship, presentation skills, negotiation and leadership skills

  • Ability to interact with the C-Suite

  • Knowledge in risk selection and assessment

  • Ability to manage complex portfolios

  • Technical knowledge of insurance industry operations and processes

  • Knowledge of loss trends, triangles and ratemaking

  • Strong knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, national/local filing regulations and guidelines
